Oceangoing Barges
Oceangoing barges are specifically designed for the transportation of cargo in open sea states. Using ocean barges as an alternative to higher speed ocean freighters can offer many advantages. One advantage the ocean deck barge provides is having open deck space for over-sized cargo, as well as shallow port access. These barges are built so they meet the requirements set by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Bureau of Shipping as the building class society. The standard ocean barge is 195 feet long, 35 feet wide and can be used to a 9 foot draft, barges have a capacity of 1,500 tons but modern barges today are 290 feet by 50 feet.
